Laminate = Wood + High Tech

More than 30 years of research and development have made laminate a high-tech product with outstanding product characteristics and an optimum environmental impact.

Layer 1: Overlay and decorative paper

The surface of a laminate floor consists of a thin layer of water-based melamine resin which is free of organic solvents. Contrary to what some people think, this coating is not harmful to health, as was clearly proven by a study by the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute.

The transparent resin layer protects the decorative paper underneath against the harmful effects of light, chemicals, organic solvents and temperature, so that your favourite decor retains the full vibrancy of its colours even after many years. The decorative paper is printed without the use of harmful dyes or pigments.

Layer 2: Core

The thickest layer of a laminate floor is a carrier layer of wood fibreboard, either MDF or HDF, which are a finer version of particle board. To permanently join the wood fibres, an environmentally friendly resin made of natural materials is added before pressing.

Layer 3: Stabilising layer

The core is made of wood, and wood expands and contracts, so the bottom layer of a laminate floor – a very tough, pliable counteracting paper – provides the necessary stability.

Eco-friendly production

All the components of laminate flooring are manufactured without the use of pesticides, organic chlorine compounds or harmful heavy metals. The coatings are also free of plasticisers.
